Hurricane Ike out of place....

Apparently Ike got tired of the golf coast and hit here (as most people here already know)! With wind at 28 mph and 45-50mph wind gusts yesterday (in Columbus anyway) - it's no wonder our yard is a mess! It's also no wonder that 350,000 (something like that) people were/are without electricity. We were one of those in the dark for about 22 hours. However, with all the damage to the house, yard and spoiled food in the fridge (we had just gone grocery shopping for a "few" items too), I still think we obviously have it much better than the coast.:-)

Most of the things you hear are true. But remember Houston is gigantic. I got power back Sunday. But tons of people don't. So we have people at our house non stop. We just saw pictures from the beach, it is amazing. In a very sad way. Lots of people are dead and tons more are homeless. We meet in the morning to determine how the church is responding.

We stayed through the storm. I was a little scared when the winds howled by the house all night. Next time we won't stay. But a storm has not hit here since '83 and '61 before that. Hope it is another 20 years till the next.

Absolutely.

No offense to your buddy but - why did he stay? Jeff has a buddy that lives - somewhere in Texas (a town I've never heard of until recently but pretty close to the coast). He sent his wife and son to Fort Worth while he stayed behind to mind his business. He seems to be doing fine but it does indeed sound VERY bad down there.

He's safe

Houston is a VERY big place...he and his family are in an area of the city that was not threatened by high water.
