The kids are happy to be back in school. They are both in school all day now so my youngest thinks it is GREAT! She gets to be a big girl and eat lunch at school like her sister AND gets to go outside TWO times to play through the day.
They have adapted well.
As for mom, I am taking this week to get my house in order. We look like a tornado touched down inside here! :)
After that, on the job hunting prowl for a decent paying job that corresponds to their school schedules.
Actually very well. We moved to Grove City over the summer and all of our kids have started in new schools (with the exception of our 4 1/2 year old, who still goes to A.G.Bell, but she does have a new bus driver).
The kids have adjusted well and are making new friends.
I have to say we are very happy with the communication that comes from South Western Schools.
It's still going to be an adjustment for them, but over all it's going great.
Or at least, that's what my son would have you believe- Ha! He swears he hates school, but then just devours anything to do with history or science. He even likes math. But don't ask him to write anything- aaaarrrggghhhh! Poor guy! And spelling?!?! Well, skol IS a 4 letter word in his little universe- LOL! Poor soul, you'd think torture by spelling was something out of a scary wax museum. He's a pistol!
Having said all of that, he is cooperating MUCH better this year in 5th grade and for the first time since kindergarten, we are right on track. Yay! You see, he has Asperger's, ADHD, ODD, SID, short term memory defficiency and Juvenile Arthritis (that makes it physically hard to write). I'm so proud of him- he is overcoming a lot and we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!
My daughter, on the other hand, is an advanced learner. She slipped a bit in reading over the summer, but she was already a year ahead anyway, so it's no biggie. The math is really gonna fly and by the end of the year, I fully expect her to be another grade ahead in math. Her fave is art, art, art, art and more art...oh, and did I forget to mention....ART?! What a cutie! She couldn't care less about history and science is okay. She loves stories, as long as I read them to her. She reads quite well herself, but she doesn't believe it yet. So we are doing confidence building exercises. I keep TELLING her she's right but she's never quite sure!
Both of my kids play instruments and sing and dance, so we don't consider that a subject. But this year, we are adding foreign languages! Ooooohhh!!!! Aaaahhhhh!!!!!!! I'd love to learn Arabic and Russian and Chinese with them, but it looks like we are starting out with Latin and Spanish for now.
I, on the other hand, am busy organizing things into some semblance of order and routine. Yeah, right! Ha! Seriously, though, I love school.
Oh, and if you haven't noticed, we are homeschoolers. We use an online charter school, but since we are home, we call it homeschooling! I love teaching my kids and watching their eyes light up when they make a new discovery! Even my occasionally grouchy britches son will light up and run to me with a science book to "teach" me something new he just learned! Fun fun fun!
Can you believe it? My youngest has had his first sick day already! He has a typical cold that this morning was accompanied with a low grade temp. of 99.2. Within a few hours, it climbed to 101. Gave him some Tylenol and he seems to be feeling much better - for now. Funny thing is he was feeling fine yesterday. It was only when I was giving him a bath that he developed the sniffles and it all went down hill from there. And of course, it's the weekend! Wouldn't that just figure!:-)
we are doing well too
