New Project: The Common Twoshirts Library

Hello. My name is Jason Coker and I'm a book-a-holic. I've spent countless amounts of money on Amazon.com over the years. I've obsessively joined a variety of book clubs and purchased titles I didn't really need all to satisy my insatiable hunger for more books.

Not any longer. I'm kicking the habit. I still love books, and will continue to read them at a rapid rate, but I'm no longer going to buy any more books unless I absolutely have to for school.

I've decided to turn my resolution into a project on Twoshirts. Accordingly, I'm excited to announce the Twoshirts Common Library Project. Starting tonight I'll begin posting as many books as I can to Twoshirts.org in the hopes of creating a commonly owned library of fiction and non-fiction titles that all the Twoshirts members can enjoy and share with one another.

Will you join me?

Here's what I'm doing:

  • I'm ruthlessly going through my personal library and posting every book I absolutely don't need for work or school. Even the books I love. I've decided others should be able to enjoy these great books without having to buy them.
  • I've created a sticker that says, "This book is part of the Twoshirts.org community. When you're done with it, please re-post it on the website so others can enjoy it. Thank you!" Then I plastered this sticker on every book I'm giving away.

  • Last but not least I'm posting all these titles here on the Twoshirts site using good descriptions and adding a few of my own thoughts about the book in order to be helpful.

Alternatively, rather than posting them, you could put the sticker on a book you loan to a friend as a way of spreading the word about Twoshirts.org! College students could list their used textbooks so others can benefit from them. The opportunities are endless!

Remember, knowledge is power. Imagine the kind of amazing common ownership library we could create if we all participated.

books

i have so many books but yet felt guilty throwing them away they are just now gathering dust. i tried to give them to nursing homes but they seem to be pretty picky. i think this is great. right now we have a sub. to readers digest but the print is to small and we do not read it. i would love to read the big print. maybe i can get my hands on some. also i have alot of accounts that give me books. now i know what to do with them. count me in.

I'm in!

Of course I have already given away most of my books through TwoShirts, but I'm willing to post my books in the future, after applying the sticker, of course!

stickers for common library project

I'm just getting around to going through my bookshelf. Would you be able to post the word document for the sticker as well as which avery label you are using? it's not a big deal if you don't. I can always make my own stickers, but I figured that it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I'll work on that today...
